Bzhezhinska and Kofi, a remarkable jazz duo, seamlessly blend the ethereal sounds of the harp with the soulful melodies of the saxophone, creating a musical experience that transcends boundaries. Their collaboration, which began in 2017, is a testament to the power of harmonious fusion, drawing inspiration from jazz traditions while infusing their performances with innovation and improvisation. Together, they craft enchanting narratives through their music, captivating audiences with each note and ensuring that their jazz legacy continues to evolve in exciting and unexpected ways. Their new duo album, Altera Vita, is set to be released on BBE Music in 2024.
Alina Bzhezhinska, also known as AlinaHipHarp, is undoubtedly one of the leading harpists in the world today. A one-woman powerhouse, she is on a mission to bring the harp to the forefront of contemporary sound. With performances ranging from the late Queen’s 80th birthday to collaborations with jazz greats, Bzhezhinska has worked with top artists such as Kamaal Williams, DJ Spinna, Slide Johnson, Tony Kofi, and Shabaka Hutchings. She is also the creator of the unique international formation, HipHarpCollective. Her critically acclaimed albums include Inspiration (Ubuntu Music, 2018), Reflections (BBE Music, 2022), and the single "Altera Vita," featuring Tony Kofi on saxophone (BBE Music, 2023).
Tony Kofi, a British jazz multi-instrumentalist born to Ghanaian parents, is an accomplished player of the alto, baritone, soprano, and tenor saxophones, as well as the flute. After cutting his teeth with the “Jazz Warriors” in the early 90s, Kofi established himself as a respected musician, teacher, and composer. In addition to performing and recording with Gary Crosby's “Nu-Troop” and “Jazz Jamaica,” his playing has graced the stages of many bands and collaborations, including notable artists such as US3, The World Saxophone Quartet, Courtney Pine, Donald Byrd, Eddie Henderson, and Harry Connick Jr. Through his diverse range of musical experiences, Kofi continues to contribute significantly to the vibrant jazz scene.
